Melinda Szymanik writes picture books, short stories, and novels for children and young adults. Her books have been finalists in various awards, and five of them have been selected as Storylines Notable Books. Her picture book, “The Were-Nana,” won the New Zealand Post Children’s Choice Award in 2009 and was a finalist for the Sakura Medal in 2010. Her novel, “A Winter’s Day in 1939,” was chosen as the librarians’ favorite book at the LIANZA Awards in 2014, and her picture book “Fuzzy Doodle” was selected for the White Raven in Germany in 2017. She lives in Auckland with her family.
